About SOLIDWORKS

SOLIDWORKS certifies specific professional graphics cards and drivers. Consumer gaming cards will run it, but Dassault does not support them, and viewport behaviour can differ noticeably.

Frequently asked questions

Can I run SOLIDWORKS on a gaming graphics card?
It will generally run, but Dassault Systèmes only supports certified professional cards and drivers. If you hit viewport artefacts or crashes on a consumer card, that configuration is not supported, so weigh that before relying on it for production work.

What PC do I need for SOLIDWORKS?

For a comfortable experience, the publisher's minimum specification asks for the following. This is their figure, not our estimate.

Processor
3.3 GHz or higher Intel or AMD processor

Not sure how your parts compare? Run the check above or read what these tiers mean.

Can my laptop run SOLIDWORKS?

The same check applies — enter the parts your laptop actually contains. Be aware that a laptop graphics chip is usually slower than the desktop card it shares a name with, because the manufacturer sets a lower power limit. A laptop advertising the Certified professional graphics card with a certified driver — see the vend named here may therefore fall somewhat short of it in practice, and sustained performance drops further as the machine heats up. Treat a borderline laptop result as optimistic rather than assured.
